Cases cited in the article are:

Delaware v. Prouse, 440 U.S. 648 (1979)
(random traffic stops, left to the discretion of police officers, are unconstitutional)

Michigan v. Sitz, 496 U.S. 444 (1990)
(upheld the legality of sobriety checkpoints in which a consistent proportion of drivers was stopped; such roadblocks were permitted as a way to prevent drunken driving)

Indianapolis v. Edmond, 531 U.S. 32 (2000)
(struck down the use of traffic checkpoints to stop drivers so that trained dogs could sniff the vehicles for narcotics)
